This permit allows collection and export of Cape Mountain Zebra for non-commercial research purposes and is issued subject to the provisions and regulations of the following laws:
a) The National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998)
b) The National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act, 2004 (Act No. 10 of 2004)
c) The National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, 2003 (Act No. 57 of 2003)
d) Bioprospecting, Access and Benefit Sharing Amendment Regulations, 2015
e) CITES Regulations
f) Nature Conservation Ordinance, 1974 (Ord. 19 of 1974)
g)  Any other relevant law.

  • The permit holder must give a presentation about the research findings at one  CapeNature's Quarterly Ecological Meetings of the East Region.
  • One copy of all completed reports, publication or articles ( including books, videos, CDs, DVDs, etc) resulting from the project/ collection must be submitted to the Chief Executive Officer: Western Cape Nature Conservation Board free of charge.
No material or specimen collected with this permit, or material or specimens bred or propagated from material or specimens collected with this permit, may be donated, sold or used for any commercial purpose by any party.

The permit holder is working in collaboration with scientists and students from  the Nelson Mandela University  in South Africa.
