The Academic Cooperation Agreement between the National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute (NAFRI), Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MOAE), Lao PDR, and the Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo, Japan, was signed on 2 September 2024.
A total of 123 edible plant samples were collected as part of this project. Traditional knowledge associated with these samples was also documented.

- The applicant is required to share the research results and related publications with the local project partners and the Lao ABS authority to ensure proper acknowledgment of the resource providers.
- This permission is granted solely for the specific research mentioned above.
- If further experiments on the resources or their digital sequence information and Traditional Knowledge associated with genetic resources are intended for commercialization purposes, the Graduate School of Medicine, the University of Tokyo, Japan, must inform the ABS authority and the local partner to establish a new ABS agreement.
- The applicant is required to acknowledge the country of origin of the genetic resources when generating or using digital sequence information (DSI) derived from those resources.
The edible plant samples collected as described above shall not be shared with any third party without prior permission from the Lao ABS authority and the implementing partner in Lao PDR.
All collected edible plant specimens will be transported from Lao PDR to The University of Tokyo, Japan, and to laboratories at RIKEN, the National Institute of Public Health, the National Institute for Environmental Studies, Kyoto University, Kanazawa University, and Tohoku University for component analysis and investigation of their metabolization mechanisms.
