Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Customs Services Department
The Customs Services Department (previously known as Customs and Excise Department) of the Kenya Revenue Authority was established by an Act of Parliament in 1978.
Apart from its fiscal responsibilities, the Customs Services Department is responsible for facilitation of legitimate trade; and protection of society from illegal entry and exit of prohibited goods.This include protection of communities from illegal export out of the country and exploitation of their genetic resources
Customs also monitors movement of genetic material across boundaries.
Customs already request individuals at border points to declare plant, animal and other genetic material in their possession.
Such information may be useful in tracking actual movement of genetic resources between countries and help users to show legal provenance and legal compliance with ABS measures.
