Kenya Forest Service (KFS)
The Kenya Forest Service is a corporate body that was established under the Forest Act, 2005
To enhance development, conservation and management of Kenya’s forest resources base in all public forests, and assist County Governments to develop and manage forest resources on community and private lands for the equitable benefit of present and future generations.
Its functions include Assess applications for the use of forests and forest resources to individuals, corporate bodies and communities, and issue licenses to this effect and in accordance with the Act;
Under the protocol KFS role is management of forest genetic resources and associated biodiversity. Obligations of user and provider in MAT and forest product permit

Forest Act 2005
The entire Act particularly;
Sections 33 (1) The President may, on the advice of the Board, by order published in the Gazette, declare any tree, species or family of tree species to be protected in the whole country or in specific areas thereof, and the Board shall cause this information to be disseminated to the public.
(2) Any person who fells, cuts, damages or remove, trades in or exports or attempts to export any protected tree, species or family of trees or regeneration thereof or abets in the commission of any such act commits an offence.
Section 39 2 (c) ensure that the forest areas under his management are maintained for the conservation of biodiversity, cultural or recreational use
