Genetic resources for food and agriculture (GRFA) underpin human well-being and are vital for food security. The need to ensure the continued use and exchange of these resources raises distinctive access and benefit-sharing (ABS) issues. The Nagoya Protocol on Access and Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization, together with the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA), create opportunities to develop ABS solutions that are supportive of the special needs of this sector.
