This is a prospective observation study of patients with clinical Plasmodium falciparum and/or Plasmodium vivax in the Greater Mekong Sub-region using parasite DNA from point of care finger prick dried blood spot samples as well as a short survey on patient domographics, employment, travel, and mobile phone use to study P. falciparum and P. vivax parasite genotypes, population characteristics and gene flow patterns.

(2) Transfer Agreement Material (TMA) is applied if the genetic resources sending out from Lao PDR to Mahidol-Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU), Mahidol University, Thailand and Wellcome Sanger Institute, United Kingdom. The TMA should be agreed among the project parties with the acknowledge of the ABS authority
(3) Share research result and project report for Malaria Parasitology and Entomology, Ministry of Health and the ABS Authority is requested from the user

This is a prospective observational study which there is no treatment given to patients according to study procedures. Only medical intervention for this study is
sample collection that is totally independent of the treatment and all patients involving in the study will receive standard care for P. falciparum and/or P. vivax malaria as well as drug therapy according to the
national treatment guidelines of their countries.
