All samples were subject to DNA extraction, followed by screening for Marek’s disease virus (MDV) serotypes 1 and 2 using a custom quantitative (q)PCR designed to distinguish between different MDV serotypes and vaccine/field strains. Samples positive for MDV are in the process of undergoing whole-genome sequencing using Illumina short read technology following molecular enrichment using a custom panel of MyBaits RNA probes synthesised by Daicel. The utilisation is focused on the detection, characterisation and genomic analysis of Marek's disease virus present within the samples. The chicken DNA itself is not the subject of genetic analysis, nor is it being utilised for research purposes beyond serving as the biological matrix from which viral material is identified and recovered.
