About Nagoya Protocol Capacity-building Informal Advisory Committee
In decision NP-4/7 Parties decided to revise the Nagoya Protocol’s strategic framework for capacity-building and development in line with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, the long-term strategic framework for capacity-building and development and the findings of the evaluation of the framework undertaken in the previous intersessional period.
In the same decision the Parties extended the mandate of the Informal Advisory Committee (IAC) to support the revision and updating of the strategic framework, and decided to hold one meeting, and online consultations to support the revision and updating of the strategic framework for capacity-building and development.
The meeting of the IAC took place in Montreal from 20 to 22 June 2023.
In preparation for the meeting, a webinar was held on 9 May 2023 to present relevant background information and introduce elements for inclusion in the revised framework. The objectives of the webinar were to:
- Build common understanding among the IAC members of the process and timeline to revise the strategic framework and their role in the process;
- Ensure the IAC members have all the necessary background information to facilitate the revision of the framework;
- Introduce elements for inclusion in the revised framework for subsequent discussion in the online forum that will follow the webinar. The outcomes of the online discussions will be considered in the documentation prepared for the IAC meeting in June.
The presentations held during the webinar are available for download here and under “resources”:
In addition, the Secretariat convened an Online Forum for the IAC members from 10 to 22 May 2023 to collect views on different aspects related to the revision as well as elements to be included in revised capacity building action plan.
The forum is re-convening in October 2023 to provide additional inputs and further views on the draft action plan.
The forum is restricted to the members of the IAC, as presented under “members”.
The language for the forum is English.
