The western highland families are aware that climate has undergone drastic variations, with consequences such as loss of crops and dietary cultural changes, which have led to problems such as chronic and acute malnutrition, agricultural biodiversity loss, water source reduction, migration, and conflicts, among others. However, there are countless traditional practices that are relevant to climate change adaptation. This work presents a documentary basis on the importance of traditional knowledge in adaptation strategies in Guatemala and Latin America. Furthermore, it identifies healers, spiritual guides, as well as technical and academic extension workers as the key actors to influence such knowledge management. Also, a synthesis of 28 experiences of climate change adaptation by applying traditional knowledge in the Guatemalan western highlands and a description of the methodology used for their transfer and subsequent systematization is included. The goal of this systematization is to share those innovative practices that are built upon traditional knowledge, in order to assist in the social adaptation to climate change and variability.
