Enhancing ABS implementation with “Easy ABS Guides”

Effective implementation of the Nagoya Protocol depends on users being able to easily understand and navigate national ABS procedures. This side event will showcase experiences from the project funded by the Japan Biodiversity Fund and implemented by the Leibniz Institute, DSMZ, which supports the development of user-friendly ABS guides that translate ABS procedures into clear, practical, and accessible information.

Beyond benefit-sharing: Demonstrating the contribution of ABS to biodiversity and sustainable development

This side event will examine the contribution of access and benefit-sharing (ABS) to the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity by showcasing how benefits generated through ABS agreements have supported the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and contributed to socio-economic development. Drawing on information from the first national reports and the second assessment and review process under the Nagoya Protocol, the event will bring together Parties, scientific users, Indigenous peoples and local communities, and business representatives to share experiences and lessons learned.
