Upcoming webinar on DSI: “Reflection on the co-chairs panel: Discussion on potential criteria for assessing DSI policy options”

24 March 2021, 12:00 – 14:00 PM UCT (London)

Languages: Participants will discuss in English, interpretation into French and Spanish

At CBD COP 14, Parties committed to working towards resolving their divergence of views regarding benefit sharing from the use of digital sequence information on genetic resources. To broaden and deepen the science- and policy-based process around this topic, the ABS Capacity Development Initiative is organizing a series of virtual events since December 2020. This webinar, based on the information given by the OEWG Co-Chairs webinar, should open a next phase of reflection on the various approaches developed to address sharing the benefits arising from the use of DSI. As informal part of the science and policy-based DSI process, the webinar will not directly analyze the presented policy options but will give experts, having extensively worked on technical and legal aspects related to DSI production, storage, use and management, the opportunity to reflect on potential criteria that could be used to assess possible DSI policy options.

Webinar participants are requested to familiarize themselves with two key inputs:

Participants who are not very familiar with DSI technologies, issues and processes might further wish to prepare by watching the recordings of earlier webinars on introduction to DSI and the results of the AHTEG on DSI as well as to consult additional resources available from the SCBD and the ABS Initiative.
