The Pacific Regional Guidelines aim to help countries develop domestic-level compliance mechanisms. The capacity building and awareness-raising work of the ABS Regional project in the Pacific has resulted in ten countries becoming Parties to the Nagoya Protocol. However, significant challenges remain in implementing compliance mechanisms under the Protocol. The guidelines are specifically drafted to assist Pacific island countries in the implementation of the Protocol.
