According to the Act on the Implementation of the Nagoya Protocol to the Convention on Biological Diversity, users who import to Finland genetic resources or traditional knowledge of indigenous communities associated with it that are subject to the provisions concerning a Party to the Nagoya Protocol on the access and the sharing of benefits shall provide notification to the competent authority within one month from the import date the National Competent Authorities. The Competent National Authorities are also responsible for receipt of due diligence declarations from users at the research funding stage as well as at the stage of final development of a product. The responsibilities of the Competent Authorities also include monitoring and inspections of the domestic users of genetic resources.
