Checkpoint Responsibilities
The fields of jurisdiction of the Ministry of Environment is "Biological resources in the field of wildlife in accordance with the Wildlife Protection and Management Act and biological resources in accordance with the Act on the Conservation and Use of Biological Diversity".
<Duties of the National Checkpoint>
Article 13 (2) of the Act on Access to and Utilization of Genetic Resources and Benefit-Sharing prescribes the duties of the head of the National Checkpoint as follows:
  1. Processing procedural compliance reporting in accordance with Article 15 of the Act;
  2. Monitoring and recommending procedural compliance Article 16 of the Act;
  3. Supporting persons who utilize foreign genetic resource(s) domestically.

<Delegation of Authority>
In accordance with Article 13 (5) 2 of the Enforcement Decree of the Act on Access to and Utilization of Genetic Resources and Benefit-Sharing, the Minister of Environment, as the head of the National Checkpoint, delegates authority over the following matters, to the President of the National Institute of Biological Resources pursuant to Article 23 (1) of the Act:
  1. Supporting persons who utilize foreign genetic resource(s) in the Republic of Korea, under Article 13 (2) 3 of the Act;
  2. Processing procedural compliance reporting under Article 15 of the Act;
  3. Investigating and recommending procedural compliance under Article 16 of the Act;
  4. Imposing and collecting administrative fines pursuant to Article 28 (1) 2 of the Act.
